TED STEWART (OP)  remembers...

I am very sorry to hear of Basil's passing.  It is 30 years or more since I was involved in the meetings, but I look back on those days with fondness.  As a regular attendee at St Michael's Church, as well as at meetings in the afternoon, I spent much time on a Sunday hanging out at Basil's home in Barnes.  Basil opened his home and life to so many generations of Paulines.  It is a testiment to his incredible generosity of spirit and service.  I am sure Basil will be remembered with great affection and warmth by all who were blessed by his ministry - even though I am not sure Basil ever referred to it in this way, such was his humble nature.

Perhaps the greatest testimony I can share is that to this day I remain a man of faith.  My own faith grew in no small part on account of seeds sown by Basil and others during those formative years of school.  I have Basil to thank for creating and fostering a space in which I, and countless others, could grow.

Strangely I think I can also blame Basil for the peculiar range of songs I seem to remember the words to still, and which periodically surface to the great surprise and puzzlement of my family.  It is amazing what sticks in the brain.

I give thanks to God for Basil and trust in his eternal rest.  A sad day for the Pauline Meetings, but I trust one that over time will engender only the best of memories.
