ABOUT DONALD

Donald was born on 29.01.1922 in Hove, Sussex as the last of five children to be born to Harry and Catherine Peters. 

His school and college life was in Brighton and Hove, followed by five years in the Royal Air Force during the war. After leaving the RAF he returned to Brighton Technical College to complete his qualifications and from 1947 to 1949 he gained practical experience as an automobile engineer with Dixon-Rolt Racing. 

It was whilst at college that he met Paddy Elizabeth Bradley at Hove Library. 

He joined Lockheed in Leamington Spa in 1949 and in 1951 he became Chief Designer at Alford and Alder Engineers in London. 

He married Paddy in 1951 in Shoreham-by-Sea, they lived in London and Paddy was a librarian at Harrods. 

Alford and Alder moved to Hemel Hempstead a year later and Donald and Paddy moved to live in the New Town of Hemel Hempstead in 1952. 

Their son Antony was born in 1956 and their daughter Sarah in 1959. 

Fulfilling an obsession with cars and motoring in 1955 he joined "Autocar '' as a journalist, writing new car descriptions, making road tests and reporting races. 

After nine years he transferred to the journal "Automobile Engineer" and finally in 1969 he joined ICI Plastics Division in Welwyn Garden City for press and public relations work. He retired in 1981 and pursued his enjoyment of photography and classical music. His great love was always for his beloved Paddy.
